Economic Activities

                                       Economic Activities

Economic activity is the activity of making, providing, purchasing, or selling goods or services. Any action that involves producing, distributing, or consuming products or services is an economic activity. ... Additionally, any activities involving money or the exchange of products or services are economic activities.

Economists say there are four basic types of economic activities:
  • The Primary Sector, i.e., raw materials.
  • The Secondary Sector, which includes industry and manufacturing.
  • The Tertiary Sector, i.e., services.
  • The Quaternary Sector, which we also call the 'knowledge sector.

culture

                                     Culture

Cultural Geography is a subfield of Human Geography which focuses “upon the patterns and interactions of human culture, both material and non-material, in relation to the natural environment and the human organization of space” (Cosgrove 1994). ... Sauer defined the landscape as the defining unit of geographic study.

From the Competing Values Framework 4 organizational culture types emerged: Clan culture, Adhocracy culture, Market culture and Hierarchy culture.
  • Clan Culture. This working environment is a friendly one. ...

weathering

                                 Weathering

Weathering describes the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on the surface of the Earth. Water, ice, acids, salts, plants, animals, and changes in temperature are all agents of weathering. Once a rock has been broken down, a process called erosion transports the bits of rock and mineral away .

Types :

It does not involve the removal of rock material. There are three types of weathering, physical, chemical and biological.

The Milky Way Galaxy

                              Milky Way GALAXY

The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our Solar System, with the name describing the galaxy's appearance from Earth: a hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye.

Radius: 52,850 light years

Stars: 250 billion ± 150 billion

sun galactic rotation period :  240 Myr

sun distance to galactic center :  26.4 ± 1.0 kly (8.09 ± 0.31 kpc)

Escape velocity at sun position : 550 km/s

Did you know !    The stream lies within the Milky Way, approximately 10 kiloparsecs (30,000 light-years) from the Sun, and extending over a region of space at least 10 kpc across in three dimensions.

Earth satellite the Moon

                                          Moon

The Moon, occasionally distinguished as Luna, is an astronomical body that orbits the Earth as its only permanent natural satellite. It is the fifth-largest satellite in the Solar System, and the largest among planetary satellites relative to the size of the planet that it orbits.

Distance to earth :  384,400 km

Gravity  : 1.62 m/s²

Radius :  1,737.1 km

Surface area : 3.793×107 km2; (0.074 of Earth's)

Did you know :   President John F. Kennedy makes his "moon speech" at Rice University in Houston on Sept. 12, 1962.

Internal structure of moon :

Having a mean density of 3,346.4 kg/m³, the Moon is a differentiated body, being composed of a geochemically distinct crust, mantle, and planetary core. This structure is believed to have resulted from the fractional crystallization of a magma ocean shortly after its formation about 4.5 billion years ago.

sun

                              Sun

The Sun, or Sol, is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma, with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. It is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth.

What is  sun  made up of ?

The Sun is a huge, glowing sphere of hot gas. Most of this gas is hydrogen (about 70%) and helium (about 28%). Carbon, nitrogen and oxygen make up 1.5% and the other 0.5% is made up of small amounts of many other elements such as neon, iron, silicon, magnesium and sulfur.

The sun has an interior consisting of the core, radiative zone, and convective zone. It has a visible surface called the photosphere, then the chromosphere, which usually isn't visible, and the very outer layer called the corona.

Revolution of Earth

                            Revolution of Earth

It takes the Earth 365 days to complete it's revolution around the sun. Licensed from iStockPhoto. noun. The definition of a revolution is the movement of one object around a center or another object, a forceful overthrow of a government by the people or any sudden or grand change.

Effects of Earth Revolution ;

Effects of Earth's revolution include the seasons and variation in the length of days and nights. In addition to revolution, the tilt of Earth's axis relative to its plane of orbit has a profound effect on Earth. At almost any given time, one hemisphere is tilted toward the sun, as the other is tilted away.

ROTATION OF EARTH

Earth's RotationEarth's Rotation and the Apparent Daily Motion of the Sky. The earth rotates about an imaginary line that passes through the North and South Poles of the planet. This line is called the axis of rotation.

Climate

Description

is the long-term average of weather, typically averaged over a period of 30 years. Some of the meteorological variables that are commonly measured are temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, and precipitation.

The climate of any particular place is influenced by a host of interacting factors. These include latitude, elevation, nearby water, ocean currents, topography, vegetation, and prevailing winds. The global climate system and any changes that occur within it also influence local climate.
